Recently, I had the pleasure of teaching my first organ student, and I was very glad to impart the basics about the organ to this student, who happens to be a church music director in the area.
We talked about parts of the organ, such as the couplers and pistons, foot pedals, and how to generate volume and crescendos on the organ. In addition, we covered some keyboard techniques for the organ as compared to the piano. We drew on traditional hymns such as “Morning Has Broken” and “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” during our lesson.
By the end of the lesson, I was so delighted to hear my student say that it was exactly what he needed.
