The Most Unusual Music Request

One of the most unusual requests I've gotten to date was to play a Japanese anime piece of music as one of the preludes to a country wedding ceremony a while back.

This piece was entitled “Before Dawn" from a Japanese animated series.  As it was explained to me, both the bride and the groom were fans of Japanese anime music, and the music carried a special significance for them.

This is one of the most exciting dimensions of my work to play music at weddings that has a special significance to the bride and groom, such as in the example above, or it could be music that they were listening to at a venue where they met, or the like.

So I set about looking for the sheet music and found, at that time, that there was no sheet music available anywhere for it.  So I learned it by ear, transcribed it, and played it that way.  It was one of the most challenging feats that I had ever accomplished in the preparation of wedding music, and it was so gratifying for me to be able to make that music come alive for the bride and groom and their guests on their wedding day.
